The Easter Bunny: Freakin’ kids out for over 200 years

by John on April 17, 2011

German settlers introduced the Easter Bunny to Americans during the 18th century. Over the next 200-300 years, that bunny has taken many forms.

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to creepy, not even the most heinous clown is creepier than a human adult dressed up as a giant rabbit.  Those over-sized bunnies can instill fear in the innocent hearts of children and, in many cases, are downright disturbing.  Put kids near one of those monsters and you may just see them freak out.

See for yourself.

As for me, if my kids want to see an Easter bunny, I’m going to do what my parents did — show them real rabbits. I may even save a ton of money down the road on counseling bills.

Some of those are so scary looking. I can’t believe people actually thought the costume would be appealing to children. I would love to know the story behind the mug shot.
